PROJECT HISTORICAL TIMETABLE
- 2007/8 - Wind Monitoring.
- 2008 – Surf Coast Council issues a Notice of a Decision to grant a planning permit.
- 2009 - VCAT upholds Planning Permit with varied conditions.
- 2011 – Victorian Government introduces 2km setback.
- 2012 - 2014 RET uncertainty.
- 2015 - new Victorian Government repeals 2km setback to 1km.
- 2016 - VRET announced at 25% by 2020 and 40% by 2025 needing a new build of 5400MW.
- 2016-2017 - Project redesign with co-location of solar and battery storage progressed.
- 2018 - Wind Farm Planning Application lodged with the Minister.
- 2018 August - Wind Farm Planning Application public exhibition period completed.
- 2018 October - co-located Solar Generation facility public exhibition period completed.
- 2018 November - Minister of Planning calls in Solar, Wind Farm & Battery Storage planning application.
- 2019 Feb - Planning Panels Victoria hearing weeks of 4/02/19 and 18/02/19 in Torquay.
- 2019 April - The Panel Report is expected to be publicly available.
The newer wind turbine generators while taller, are much more efficient and quieter than those contemplated when the project was first permitted in 2008. The newer turbines will offer a substantially reduced long term levelised cost of energy and could see Victoria secure some of the cheapest long term 100% green energy and LGC prices in Australia while facilitating investment in the State and creating jobs in regional and rural Victoria.
The Inverleigh Wind Farm summary is as follows:
- has an excellent wind resource;
- has over 10 years of available wind data;
- has modeled capacity factors of over 40%;
- is located on intensively farmed pastoral land;
- on-site surveys have verified the site is of low sensitivity in terms of ecologically significant flora and fauna;
- is in an area of relatively low population density;
- has been previously approved by Council and VCAT for a wind farm development;
- will put in place a Community Engagement Committee for ongoing community consultation and communications particularly during construction;
- will make use of the latest available turbine technology to minimize noise and be highly efficient;
- is incorporating utility scale solar generation and battery storage as options to support grid reliability and back up power options;
- has an on site 220kV connection option and the ability to connect to the 66kV Geelong Distribution Network;
- is proposing to introduce an innovative new approach for a community fund;
Large-scale solar PV uses the same technology as rooftop solar panels – specially fabricated semiconductor crystals that convert light from the sun into electricity.
